Easy day pass

Got a day pass. Climbed for a few hours. Staff was helpful at check-in. Lots of routes available. Good experience.

Loved the yoga class!

I took a yoga class at First Ascent last month and it was amazing! The instructor was super knowledgeable and made everyone feel comfortable, no matter their skill level. The studio itself was clean and had a really nice vibe. It was such a relaxing experience after a long week. I'm definitely going back for more classes and telling all my friends who do yoga to check it out. You gotta try it!

Day pass and gear rental

I tried out a day pass and rented gear from First Ascent. The process was smooth enough, the waiver was easy to do online beforehand. The climbing shoes were decent, nothing fancy but they did the job. I wished the harness was a bit more adjustable, it felt a little loose even after tightening. But for a single day, it was good value for the price. I might look into a 10-pass pack next time to save a bit more.

Good intro to climbing

I went with a few friends for the intro to climbing class last week. It was pretty fun! The instructors were nice and showed us all the ropes, literally. We got to try bouldering and then top rope. I didn't realize how much of a workout it was gonna be, my arms were sore the next day. But it was a good time overall.

How does First Ascent compare to Movement Gyms? I've climbed at Movement before but looking for a new spot.

S Sofia Carter 1 week ago
First Ascent definitely feels more community-focused to me, and the bouldering sets are usually more creative. Movement's good too, but I prefer the vibe here.

Both are great honestly. First Ascent has really good setting, and I like their yoga classes more. Movement can get super crowded sometimes, but that varies by location.

Thinking of getting a membership, but I'm only in Chicago for a few months. Can I cancel it easily or am I locked in forever?

J Jeff 1 month ago
Nah, it's pretty straightforward to cancel. You just gotta give them a heads up, usually a month in advance. Did it last year when I moved.

yeah I think it's a 30-day notice thing. Not a forever lock-in at all, which is nice.

I'm a complete noob when it comes to climbing. Is this place super intimidating for beginners or can I actually learn stuff there?

S Sandra 2 days ago
Dude, it's totally beginner-friendly. They have intro classes and auto-belays so you can just climb without needing a partner right away. Lots of people start there.

My kid wants to try climbing. Is there an age limit for kids, like for day passes or just to be in the gym?

Z Zach 2 weeks ago
I think as long as they can fit the gear, they're good to go. They have youth programs and camps for different age groups, so check those out.

They're pretty good with kids. My 6-year-old goes sometimes. You just need to sign a waiver for them.

Hey, wondering if the student discount applies to new members too, or is it only for renewals? Trying to save some cash on the monthly dues.

R Robert 2 weeks ago
It definitely applies to new members! Just bring your student ID when you sign up. They'll hook you up.

Yep, student discount is for new folks too. I think it's like 15-20% off. It's a decent chunk of change.
